Grand Canyon National Park is one of the United States' oldest national parks and is located in Arizona. Within the park lies the Grand Canyon, a gorge of the Colorado River, considered to be one of Seven Natural Wonders of the World.


Yellowstone National Parkwas the first national park in the world and is located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser.


Yosemite National Parkis aesignated as a World Heritage Site; it is located in east central California. Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves, and biological diversity.


Bryce Canyon National Park is located in southwestern Utah. The major feature of the park is Bryce Canyon which, despite its name, is not a canyon but a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion. The unique area has hundreds of tall hoodoos formed by erosion.


Arches National Park is a National Park in eastern Utah. It is known for preserving over 2000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch.


Monument Valley (or valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft above the valley floor. It is located on the northern border of Arizona with southern Utah.


Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming; the park consists of approximately 310,000 acres and includes the major peaks of the 40-mile (64 km) long Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole.

Grand Teton is named for Grand Teton which is the tallest mountain in the Teton Range.


Painted Desert is located in Northern Arizona in the United States. The Arizona desert stretches from the Grand Canyon National Park into the Petrified Forest National Park. In the southern portions of the desert the remains of a Triassic period coniferous forest have fossilized over millions of years.


Badlands Wilderness is located in South Dakotah; 64,144 acres of the park is the site of the reintroduction of the black-footed ferret, the most endangered land mammal in North America. The Badlands are a collection of buttes, pinnacles, spires, and grass prairies. It has the world's richest fossil beds from the Oligocene epoch, and there is wildlife including bison, bighorn sheep, black-footed ferrets, and swift foxes.


Zion National Park is located in Utah. A prominent feature of the park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles (24 km) long and up to half a mile (800 m) deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River. The park's unique geography and variety of life zones allow for unusual plant and animal diversity. Zion National Park includes mountains, canyons, buttes, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches.


Glacier National Park is located in the U.S. state of Montana, bordering the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. The park encompasses over 1,000,000 acres (4,000 km2) and includes parts of two mountain ranges (sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains), over 130 named lakes, more than 1,000 different species of plants and hundreds of species of animals.


Joshua Tree covers parts of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts and the Little San Bernardino Mountains, this is the home of the Joshua tree. Across great elevation changes are sand dunes, dry lakes, rugged mountains, and granite monoliths. A large part of the park is designated to wilderness area.


Death Valley National Park is a mostly arid National Park located east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. It is the hottest and driest of the national parks in the United States. The second-lowest point in the Western Hemisphere is in Badwater Basin, which is 282 feet (86 m) below sea level. The park is home to many species of plants and animals that have adapted to this harsh desert environment.
