Course Description:
Computers, their use and place in modern society. Computer organization and hardware, computer software. Introduction to use of the computer, operating system commands, word processing, database management, other applications, and computer programming. Internet and its use. Ethical and societal issues.

Course Prerequisites:
Satisfaction of the Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) requirement.
No prior computer experience necessary; course recommended for students of any major who want to learn about computers and how to use them.

Course Requirements and Grading:
1 library visit 5%

Homework:
Due 1 week after assigned. 25% penalty for each class meeting beyond due dates.

Research Project:
Suggest a research topic and submit a proposal. After approval, employ those information competency skills taught in class. Construct a web site and compose a report between 1000 to 1500 words. On the report, there should be a part showing how these skills assisting you during the whole process.

Exams:
Multiple choice and short-answer questions based on lectures, readings, and assignments. Final exam is comprehensive.

Make-up Tests or Exam:
Extreme circumstances only. Contact the instructor in advance if possible. Related documentation such as a doctor’s note is required.
